We are excited to announce that there is a safe new medication for the treatment of chronic arthritis in cats. Early results in our patients suffering with arthritis pain have been positive and our clients have expressed how pleased they are with the improved mobility and quality of life their cats are experiencing.

The drug is called Solensia, a biologic medication consisting of a monoclonal antibody that targets nerve growth factor (NGF) which is responsible for driving the progression of osteoarthritis. This type of medication is at the extreme forefront of pharmaceutical research and directly targets the site of your cat’s joint pain.

The treatment protocol is a monthly injection based upon body weight. Reported side effects are rare (we have reported none) and are usually associated with inflammation at the injection site. All patients receiving Solensia must be current on required laboratory tests.

Oftentimes, cats mask pain and discomfort and may appear to be normal when in reality they can experience arthritis pain as they age just like we do. If you notice your cat having difficulty with activities such as jumping up or down, climbing or descending stairs, running, or chasing moving objects, then your cat may be experiencing arthritis pain. If your veterinarian determines that your cat does have osteoarthritis, we are optimistic that Solensia can alleviate their pain and help your beloved feline friend live their best life.
